Every year since 2017, the Cornell Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa has awarded scholarships to graduating seniors in Phi Beta Kappa. The number of scholarships and amount awarded varies by year but has gone up in recent years, with four $3,000 scholarships awarded in 2019 and three $3,500 scholarships awarded in 2018. Recipients of the scholarship prize are selected by a committee consisting of Daniel R. Schwarz, Faculty President of Cornell Phi Beta Kappa, and Barbara Baird, Faculty Secretary of Cornell Phi Beta Kappa, from a large number of applications submitted by our senior members. Prizes are awarded by Cornell Phi Beta Kappa at our annual celebratory breakfast on the Saturday of Graduation weekend.
From 2017 to 2021, Phi Beta Kappa will also award a scholarship established by Brian Winters in honor of the late Professor of French, Edward Morris. This scholarship is awarded to a student in the humanities, with preference for a French major and further preference for a student or students on financial aid.
